Class Descriptions
MULTI-LEVEL ASANA – Yoga poses (“asanas”) from several categories, designed to take your body through a full range of movement. Modifications are offered when necessary, so that students of different abilities may perform the same basic poses. Every Asana class includes instruction on breathing and meditation.
PRENATAL YOGA – A traditional series of beginner and intermediate asanas, tailored to the specific needs of expectant mothers. The mission of our prenatal classes is to help you find the balance between preparing for the profound experience of birth, while also caring for yourself in the present moment.
Pregnant women may also participate in any traditional Asana classes. Our instructors can show you how to modify poses when necessary. If our prenatal class is not convenient for you, please join us in the class that best fits your schedule.
POSTNATAL YOGA – Asanas to help you regain muscle tone, relax, and counteract the tension that comes with the demands of new motherhood, like frequent breastfeeding and baby-carrying. A great opportunity to connect with other new moms and their babies, our postnatal class is designed to be supportive and educational. Bring baby with you or come alone, it’s up to you. Breastfeeding welcome.
VINYASA FLOW YOGA – A more challenging class in which poses are performed at a faster pace, linked by the breath. Occasionally includes inversion and arm balance work as well.
TAI CHI – We are currently searching for an instructor for our Tai Chi classes. Please check back periodically for updates to the schedule, or contact Jenny if you would like to receive updates via email.
MEDITATION – Two different types of meditation practices are concentrative meditation and mindfulness meditation. Our classes will combine both of these disciplines into a comprehensive meditative practice that students can also use outside of class. Concentrative meditation focuses the attention on the breath, an image, or a sound (mantra), in order to still the mind and allow a greater awareness and clarity to emerge. Mindfulness meditation involves opening the attention to become aware of the continuously passing parade of sensations and feelings, images, thoughts, sounds, smells, and so forth without becoming involved in thinking about them.
