What can I expect after a treatment?
In general, most patients start feeling the benefits of acupuncture after 2-3 treatments. If the problem is acute, sometimes improvement is felt after one treatment and may only need 3-5 treatments to resolve. Chronic health concerns may take many treatments to resolve. Acupuncture has a cumulative effect, so each treatment will build upon the other.
What do I wear to my acupuncture treatment?
Please arrive at your acupuncture treatment with comfortable clothing that can be easily rolled up to the elbows and knees.
Does acupuncture hurt? What does it feel like?
Every individual has a unique and different acupuncture experience. Often times, there is only a very mild sensation upon insertion, or none felt at all. Once the needle is inserted, the practitioner will manipulate the needle to obtain a “Qi” sensation to help restore balance in the body. Most commonly a feeling of heaviness, or a spreading sensation is felt. It is very common for people to feel a deep sense of relaxation during treatment.
Are the needles safe and clean?
Yes, Emily uses only sterile, single-use disposable needles for her acupuncture treatments. Because the needles are only used once and disposed of, there is no risk of infection. The needles are solid, small and hair-thin.
How does acupuncture work?
Traditional Chinese Medicine theory and modern Western Medicine offer two different views of how acupuncture works. The Chinese Medical Model believes that there is basic life energy, called “Qi” that flows through the body in certain channels called meridians. When Qi becomes blocked or disturbed due to certain stressors, body functions do not work properly. Acupuncture needles are inserted into certain points to help restore a normal balance and flow of energy in the body. Modern western medical research has shown that acupuncture works by allowing the body to release endorphins, natural pain killers that help reduce pain, stress and help to control regulatory systems in the body.

Testimonials
"I came to Dr. Jess with sciatic pain. I was also experiencing issues with breathing, so I had set up an asthma test through my primary doctor. After just one adjustment, my sciatic pain was incredibly reduced. The thing I didn’t expect was that my breathing would be completely fixed! I didn’t mention to Dr. Jess that I was having breathing difficulties with shortness of breath, but she noticed on my first consultation that I had a misalignment in my spine where the nerve supply to my lungs is. I was able to cancel my asthma test and haven’t had an issue since!"
